Regional Content is a new website designed to bring regional publishers together with independent writers from around Australia overcoming a problem many regional publishers have in finding local writers and conversely, to allow writers to supply material to digital and print publishers all over Australia.
In order to initially populate the website with suitable material, We have opened a contest for writers to submit articles on an initial range of topics. These topics are in six broad categories each with six subcategories typically, Australian in nature. They are:

Articles are required in three approximate word lengths to suit publication needs, 200, 400 and 600 words. Any one article can be written to suit all word lengths.
A few do’s and don’ts.
The articles are meant to be generic in nature suitable to be used anywhere from Far North Queensland to the South coast of Western Australia covering all regions and climate changes. If specific to one region, that can be indicated when submitting.
Politics, religion, racism or articles of a sexual nature will generally not be accepted.
Before submitting each article, please check spelling and grammar with an app such as Grammarly first and then secondly, paste the article into an AI app such as ChatGPT and ask it to compare it to the ABC style guide. Articles also need to be submitted with tags and keywords/phrases to facilitate a search on the platform
On submitting, as a further edit, each article will be peer reviewed by two other writers, as you will be requested to review two articles before yours is accepted into the library.
Each reviewer will provide a score out of five. A minimum score of seven is required to be accepted. If below that, it will be passed back to the writer to edit according to the reviews at which point, other reviewers will offer marks on resubmitting.
The Competition
For the competition, all articles scoring 10 by peer review will be considered for a prize.
Prizes of $200, $400 and $600 will be offered to winning articles drawn at random from that pool. The closing date for this competition will be 30 September 2026 and winners will be notified by email and announced in the platform blog. Writers can submit as may articles as they like and will be encouraged to continue submitting articles after the competition close date.
What happens to your article afterwards?
The collection will then remain in the library and be marketed to and accessible by some 400 plus regional newspapers and magazines across Australia. The fee paid by publishers will be kept low in order to gain broad usage and a range of package options. The fees will be split 60/40 to the writer/platform. Any one article can be downloaded multiple times. Regional Content also makes no guarantee any article will be taken up by any publisher.
